Classic Christians

Coordinator: Ken McCoy

This ministry is geared towards "classic" adults (for ages 50 and up!). Our purpose is to keep active in body, mind and spirit. We do this by worship learning, fellowship and lots of fun and interesting activities!

Be sure to check News & Events for our upcoming activities.

Sunday School For Adults

Classes start at 9:45 a.m. and end at 10:45 a.m.

Tradition and Wisdom: This is a discussion style class that follows “The New International Lesson Annual.”  Students will survey the wisdom literature of the Old Testament in Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon.  Then we will return to the Sermon on the Mount of Matthew to discover how Jesus teaches this traditional wisdom.  Murray Thompson (Chapel)

Faith Link: This is a class that applies United Methodist beliefs to current faith issues and world events.  This class motivates Christians to consider their own personal views on contemporary issues.  Rick Ceresini (Room 35)

In the Light of Faith: This group will be starting their study of Advent Conspiracy.  This book and DVD study invites people to remember the real meaning of Christmas and not just focus on the consumer aspect of the holiday.  Jen Noll (Room 34)

Uppity Women of the Bible: This women’s class is a video based study focusing on amazing women of the Bible who were often misunderstood.  Kim Artrip (Room 33)

TNT (Twenties and Thirties): This group of people in their 20’s & 30’s will be studying The Journey by Adam Hamilton.  The book and DVD focus on the birth of Jesus Christ as Hamilton travels from Nazareth to Bethlehem.  Joe Tanner (Parlor)

Teaching the Word of the Truth: This bible study is divided into a series of lessons that spans the full spectrum of Christian teaching.  The group will participate in a discussion of the fundamentals of the Bible.  Ivan Mehosky (Room 32)

Choir Study: This group meets at 9:00-9:45 and will be studying The Journey by Adam Hamilton.  The book and DVD focus on the birth of Jesus Christ as Hamilton travels from Nazareth to Bethlehem.  Krista Gilmore (Parlor)

Weeknight Study

Jesus in the Hebrew Scriptures: The Identity of the Messiah This is a 4 week session meeting on Wednesday evenings at 6:30-8:30 beginning on September 21.  In this study of the Old Testament, participants will learn some new insights about the God whom men could see.   Ivan Mehosky (Room 32)

United Methodist Men's Ministries

President: Stan Cebula

The mission of the United Methodist Men (UMM) is to help with the maintenance of our church. We have three fundraisers each year that help support our mission: two spaghetti dinners and a peach festival.

In addition to supporting our church, the UMM also sponsors the upkeep of a cabin at Camp Pecometh.

We meet on the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. All men of the church are welcome to attend!

United Methodist Women

President: Judy Tanner

With approximately one million members, the United Methodist Women (UMW) is the largest lay women's organization of a major Protestant denomination in the United States. The Elkton UMW meet in "circle" groups. Each of our five circles meets anywhere from 9-12 times a year. Some meet in the evening and others meet during the day.

We invite all women of our church to join any of these circles or start a new circle! Please contact any of the circle leaders or the church office for additional information.

The Elkton UMW sponsor several annual events: Mother's Day Tea (on the Saturday before Mother's Day), a bake table at the Elkton Fall Fest a UMW birthday party in the fall, and cookie walk in December. The funds raised at these events support the UNW mission projects around the world and locally in Cecil County (including our church, the Help Center the Boys and Girls Club, Cecil Heating Assistance Program, Sunbridge Nursing Home Ministry, the Community Kitchen, and Meals on Wheels.

Women's Retreat: Early in the year, women from our church and from a number of other congregations in the area meet for an all-day retreat. They are refreshed by sharing, singing, praying, eating breakfast and lunch, through presentations and by doing a craft.

Young Adults

Leader: Alison McKenica

Twenty Somethings: This new ministry is geared towards adults between the ages of 19 and 35. This growing groups meets during the Sunday School hour (9:45-10:45 AM) in Room 29. We are planning to offer a few short-term studies this year.

ATTENTION BOWLERS! This group is starting a bowling team and is in the process of choosing a team name. Join us now so you can help us pick one (so far, some ideas are Holy Rollers or Christ's Alley Cats)!
