A Journey from Shadow to Light
Holy Week at Elkton United Methodist Church is more than just a series of services; it is a shared emotional journey that anchors our faith and our community. From the rhythmic celebration of Palm Sunday to the reflective, quiet shadows of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, we walk together through the most profound chapters of the human experience. These gatherings allow us to pause the noise of the modern world, offering a sacred space to reflect on sacrifice, service, and the enduring power of love. Whether you are seeking a moment of peace or a deeper connection to the roots of your faith, our sanctuary doors are open to provide a home for your reflection.
The story doesn’t end in the shadows, however, and neither does our invitation. We believe that the joy of Easter Morning is meant to be shared by everyone, without exception. At Elkton UMC, "all are welcome" isn't just a phrase—it is our practice. Whether you are a lifelong member, a neighbor visiting for the first time, or someone searching for hope in a difficult season, you have a seat at our table. Come as you are to celebrate the transformative power of renewal and the promise of new beginnings that Easter brings to us all.
What to Expect When You Visit
We know that walking into a new church can feel a bit uncertain, so we want to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Here is what you can look forward to:
A Warm Welcome: As soon as you walk through our doors at 219 East Main Street, you’ll be greeted by friendly faces. Whether you need help finding the sanctuary or just a quick direction to the restroom, we’re here to help.
Come As You Are: There is no "required" dress code here. You’ll see some people in their "Sunday best" and others in jeans and a t-shirt. Wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
Accessible Worship: Our services are designed to be easy to follow. We provide bulletins that guide you through the liturgy, music, and prayers so you can participate at your own pace. We have large print hymnals and bulletins available to those who need visual assistance.
A Place for All Ages: We love having families with us! Children are always welcome in our services, but we also offer specific spaces and activities for younger ones if that's more comfortable for your family.
An Open Table: In the United Methodist tradition, we practice an "Open Table" for Communion. This means you do not need to be a member of our church (or any church) to participate—all are invited to receive.
Parking & Entry: Convenient parking is available behind our church with a large handicap accessible parking lot, and our main entrance facing Main Street which is easily accessible. If it’s your first time, feel free to arrive a few minutes early to get settled and let the usher know you're new because we have a gift for you.
